There are
several health issues in the dogue de Bordeaux including
severe crippling hip dysplasia, dilated cardio Myopathy,
aortic stenosis, demodectic mange (demodex), elbow
dysplasia, shoulder dysplasia, allergies (environmental
and food), epilepsy, entropian and bloat. Most of these
health problems are most likely hereditary. Other health
conditions that can effect the breed are Wobblers
Syndrome, and several different forms of Cancer.
The OFA website
can offer a tremendous amount of knowledge on
several of the above mentioned health issues. In
addition, you can search results of testing by
breed.
The University
of Pennsylvania has developed a method of
testing for Hip Dysplasia and it's info can be
found here. Penn Hip testing is based on the
breed, not a perfect hip as OFA hip testing.
